I’d love to find a good vegetarian calzone. This one, made by Michael Angelo’s, isn’t it. I’ve been disappointed by Michael Angelo’s products in the past, and this may have been their final chance with me.
There were instructions for a conventional oven and microwave. I followed the instructions to bake in an oven (375 degrees for 20-22 minutes). The baked product looked like the box’s picture, at least the exterior. The interior, not so much.
The biggest problem is the taste. The crust has no discernible flavor, while the tomatoes, spinach, squash, zucchini, red and yellow pepper, and three kinds of cheese (asiago, mozzarella, and parmesan) combine to create an overwhelming taste of funky cheese. It was downright unappetizing. Never again.
It’s too bad because the calzones were easy to prepare, and the entire box of 2 calzones equals only 440 calories.
Two out of five stars.
I can’t find information about the spinach & vegetable calzones on their website, so maybe they’ve discontinued it.
