I probably have not eaten shrimp since the early 1970s, but at one time it was one of my favorite foods. I’d previously tried a vegetarian ‘shrimp’ but was unimpressed. This, however, was a different experience.
Sophie’s Kitchen Breaded Vegan Shrimp is a tasty vegetarian food. It’s made with Konjac Powder, a plant root grown in Asia. In addition, the shrimp taste comes from seaweed.
The dish looked like the picture on the box and was easy to prepare. I suspect it’d be even tastier if deep-fried, but I chose the oven method. Be aware that though this is a frozen food, you’ll need to thaw the package in the refrigerator for several hours so you can separate the pieces before baking. I cooked the shrimp at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
For some reason the Nutrition Facts on my box differed from the website’s. Mine had less calories and fat, so I suspect the recipe has changed.
I would definitely buy this again. My only complaint was that it was a bit chewy. It makes me want to try to make my own version. It always has made me interested in cooking with Konjac powder. If anyone has any recipes, please send them.
