I was nervous about trying this product because my experience with “veggie steaks” has not been good. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious this frozen meal was.
I prepared it following the toaster oven directions. It took about 40 minutes. There are directions for the microwave oven, but I figured the meal would taste better baked. Another nice thing–baking it made the kitchen smell good.
Once it comes out of the oven, it’s not quite as appetizing as shown on the box, but it doesn’t matter. This was a filling, tasty meal that I will buy again. It might be particularly nice to have at a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas because it has that feel of ‘holiday food.’
Here’s the box’s description of the dinner: “Vegetarian Salisbury Steak made from organic vegetables combined with mushrooms, nuts and grains and just a touch of Cheddar–Mashed Organic Potatoes–Smooth Brown Gravy–Tender Green Beans.”
I ate every bit of it (only 380 calories) and, yes, even licked the plate. The ‘steak’ is flavorful–nutty with creamy gravy. The mashed potatoes and green beans were also surprisingly good for a frozen dinner.
Like all of Amy’s Kitchen food, this is a healthy product. There are no trans fat, MSG, or preservatives. It’s also organic.
Although most grocery stores carry Amy’s Kitchen products, they may not have this particular one. I found this at a specialty natural food grocery store in Johns Creek, Georgia.
